Zero Plastic Blue Beaches (ZeP2B)

Intro

Zero Plastic Blue Beaches (ZeP2B) is a concept developed by us, DEIHERM, for the sake of our
elegant coastal line around the country. This project aims to reduce ocean plastic pollution
from land-based sources, which accounts for 80% of plastic at sea.
Our very first ZeP2B is for the Galle area. We officially launched our project on 10th June 2022 with
financial support from Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). The project will continue for
almost two years.

Objectives

Our main aim is to reduce marine plastic pollution in the Galle municipal area, its coast, and the sea.Regarding that, we have identified the following sources, which were prioritized to address instantly

  • Natural waterways and drainage canals
  • Famous coastal tourist sites

The techniques used will be 100% environmentally friendly and sustainable. We will be using a bin project and a net project to reduce plastic contamination from these sources. In addition, we have our long-term objectives to control the plastic pollution from Galle municipality sustainably and make the city a sparkling zero-plastic tourist destination in the world.
